Cuenca is a city that is to the southwest of Ecuador. It has a climate with temperatures between 10ºC and 25ºC throughout the year. It was named Cultural Heritage of Humanity for its architecture, culture and history. The city has four main rivers: Yanuncay, Machángara, Tarqui and Tomebamba, which pass through the Historic Center, which has a very old and well-preserved residential area.

It has a diversity of colonial buildings, archaeological sites, artisan areas and of great cultural wealth. Also, the beautiful landscapes do not go unnoticed, as there are high mountains and nature to admire. What currency is used in Cuenca?
The currency in Ecuador is the United States Dollar. If you travel with other currencies such as euros, reales, soles or bolivianos, for example, you can exchange them at exchange houses and banks.

Ecuador's plugs are compatible with A and B type plugs. Common voltage is 120V with a frequency of 60Hz. You can use electronic equipment in Ecuador if the standard voltage in your own country is between 100V-127V.

How to move in Cuenca?

To move around Cuenca you can opt for buses, although this transport network is not as wide as in other main cities in Ecuador; however it connects the airport with the city center. It is used frequently, efficiently and costs approximately $ 0.35 USD. The Terminal is located on Avenida España in the northeastern part of the city, 5 minutes from the Mariscal Lamar International Airport and a 20-minute walk from the Center. Also buses leave from Avenida Padre Aguirre, next to the flower market; these are heading towards the airport. There are also bus routes that take you to other cities such as Quito, which cost around $ 15 USD and to Guayaquil around $ 10 USD.

You can also get around the city in Taxis or companies like Uber and Lyft. The price varies depending on the distance and estimated travel time, the cost per km costs approximately $ 0.30 USD.

The Tramway is another viable option and it is an innovative and attractive means of transport to explore the city. It runs through the city and passes stops along Avenida de las Américas, Gran Colombia and Avenida España. The cost of the ticket is approximately $ 0.30 USD (and $ 0.17 USD for priority care users), it is paid with the Movilízate card. The card has no cost, however, users must buy a minimum of five tickets to use them in a maximum of 15 days, so the total cost amounts to approximately $ 1.50.
